I can’t get enough of spicy food and one of my favorite spices is chipotle morita powder, which is made with chile peppers. You can buy this dark red powder in specialty stores or online and it’s perfect in rice dishes, fajitas or hummus.
***Speaking of hummus, if you’re tired of paying $3.00 or more at the store than check out this fantastic recipe. I used lime juice instead of lemon (it actually tasted better than the lemon!) and added a tsp. of morita powder to spice it up. I took it to work today and once I took a bite, I couldn’t stop eating it! Plus, it’s full of protein and antioxidants.
Morita powder is pretty inexpensive; I got mine for $7.00 for a 4 oz. bag. A little goes a long way and it’s got a great smokey flavor, with no added calories. It’s also good for you! I think healthy dishes often get a bad rep since many of them can be bland. This is when spices and herbs become your best friend in the kitchen. Even if you don’t like spicy food, there are spices out there that you can try. Bon Appetit has some excellent spice recommendations if you’re not sure what to try. Once you start spicing in up in the kitchen, you won’t know how you ever lived without your spices. 🙂
