Why Did I Create This Blog?
Simply put, I want to inspire people to be healthier. I love to offer tips to those that feel overwhelmed and just don’t know where to begin. It begins with making small changes in your life; you can take charge of your health and feel more balanced. I also believe in the mind/body connection and think that we can overcome anything we put our minds to. I’m living proof of that.
I didn’t always make healthy choices; I grew up in Ohio in a blue-collar town that embraced the traditional “meat & potatoes” diet. My parents worked hard and didn’t have the money (or knowledge) to prepare healthy meals. So, we ate a lot of convenience foods. As I approached my teenage years, I ate a lot of junk & fast food; this continued until about my mid 20’s. One of my turning points was when I witnessed most of my immediate family members passing away in their 40’s & 50’s. These premature losses were totally lifestyle-related. I made a vow to myself that I would strive to be healthier from that day forward. Over the years, I’ve drastically reduced my meat, dairy, sugar, and wheat intake. At 36 years old, I feel better now than I did 10 years ago.
Although I’m not a vegan, you’ll notice that I frequently post vegetarian or vegan recipes. I do believe in the correlation between longevity and a plant-based diet (check out the many studies on Pubmed.gov for scientific evidence of this). I’m a flexitarian and strive to eat a clean diet. I’ve spent years reading about health and nutrition and consulted with chiropractors, acupuncturists, naturopaths, herbalists, etc. I’ve concluded that preventative medicine is the way to go. I’m not even close to being in perfect health, but I’m able to enjoy a great quality of life due to the lifestyle decisions that I make. I take the time every single day to prepare my meals and I hardly ever eat out. I feel much better as a result.
I hope this blog inspires you to also put your health & well-being first. This is where I share what’s worked for me and show you how to put those tips to use. My posts will be centered on wellness and balance, in general.
